With over a century of combined experience, a passion for craftsmanship, and a genuine love for helping customers find the perfect piece, each member brings their own unique touch to our family-run business. Get to know the friendly faces behind the door.

James Stephens
James stephens began his career in London serving a 5 year apprenticeship as a diamond mounter and jobbing jeweller in 1978. He began his own manufacturing and jewellery repair service in Wimbledon 1989 and expanded into retail with James Stephens Jewellers, Church Walk, Crawley in 1998. Having outgrown that premises both in the shop area and the workshop he was joined by his sons and opened the current store in 2023. He is a proud member of the National Association of Jewellers and has a passion for bespoke jewellery design and antique jewellery restoration.

Asher Stephens - Store Manager
A familiar face to most of our customers, Asher manages front-of-house operations at James Stephens Jewellers. James’s eldest son, Asher, has been working with his Dad since 2012 either side of a break to attend university where he graduated with a degree in English Literature. He has since gained diamond grading, after graduating from GIA 2019, and gemmology qualifications, from Gem-A, and is always on hand to lend expert advice. He is also the Co-Director of the Buy Back Centre, overseeing its day-to-day operations.

Jared Stephens - Goldsmith & CAD Designer
When James Stephens needed him most ... he appeared.
Jared started his career in healthcare, coordinating the placement of nurses in hospitals and care homes across the country. He later joined James Stephens Jewellers, initially working on the shop floor before moving into the workshop, where he trained as a goldsmith. Jared is an expert in CAD Design and now works full-time in the workshop whilst also building and overseeing the company website, with a hand in marketing. He is also the Co-Director of the Buy Back Centre, overseeing its day-to-day operations.

Sarah Stephens - Stock Coordinator
Sarah ran her own jewellers’ for 10 years and is an experienced member of the team as well as being James Stephens’ wife and mum to Jared and Asher Stephens. She now manages our website and photography, as well as assisting in the shop and back office.

Terry - Workshop Manager
Terry started his jewellery career at 14 years old, in 1969. He attended Sir John Cass School of Art and completed his 5-year apprenticeship with a master craftsman, specialising in making and restoring Victorian jewellery. By the age of 21, he was promoted to Workshop Manager, and eventually went on to have his own successful jewellers for over 20 years where he made jewellery for world-famous pop stars and even royalty.
After a brief attempt at retirement, Terry decided to re-join the workforce and came to James Stephens Jewellers in 2021 as our workshop manager, training our team of jewellers in traditional jewellery making techniques and putting his 55 years’ experience to excellent use!

David - Goldsmith
David started his journey as a jeweller in South Africa, where he began his apprenticeship in 1997. He qualified as a goldsmith/mounter 4 years later and moved to England in 2005. David joined the team at James Stephens Jewellers in 2008 and has been a valuable member of the team ever since.

Ivan - Goldsmith
With 36 years of jewellery making experience, Ivan is a valued member of the team at James Stephens Jewellers. Specialising in chain repairs and soldering, Ivan graduated Sir John Cass School of Art and has been working as a jeweller ever since.

Charlotte - Gemologist & Valuer
Charlotte is our in-house gemologist and valuation specialist, holding a variety of specialist qualifications with over 10 years’ experience in the industry. Registered with the IRV and JVA, Charlotte manages insurance and open-market valuations for us as well as assisting us in the shop and is known for her attention to detail and expert knowledge.

Liberty - Shop Assistant
Liberty started out her career in a London-based software company contract and project management for the first 4 years of her working life. However, she was always passionate about pursuing a more creative career, and left her office job to focus on finding a job that would allow her to express her artistic side. She joined James Stephens Jewellers in 2024 and currently works in the shop, as well as managing the James Stephens Instagram page and creating hand-drawn jewellery designs for customers.

Zahra - Shop Assistant
Zahra is a student currently studying Media, Business and Sociology alongside working part time at James Stephens, gaining valuable experience in customer service and retail. Zahra is a valued member of the team who manages a variety of roles including assisting us with our social media pages as well as taking (and modelling for) photos of our jewellery.

Louise - Watch Specialist
Louise started her watch career at the age of 21 at Watchfinder – within 2 and a half years she was headhunted to be the head polisher for the EMEA branch of Richard Mille as their first (and only) female polisher. 5 years later, Louise started her own business – Queen's Timepiece Revival – and set up her workshop in James Stephens Jewellers in 2023.
She takes care of watch refurbishments and restorations for James Stephens Jewellers, as well as numerous businesses in Sussex and Surrey.

Martin - Watch Specialist
Martin has been in the jewellery industry since 2012 and became a certified diamond grader after graduating from GIA in 2014. In 2017, he began specialising in Rolex bracelet repairs—a service that has grown to become his main focus. Today, he's proud to be one of the leading specialists in the UK and EU for restoring Rolex Oyster, Jubilee, and President bracelets.
